Koori Alcohol & Drug Worker
The role of the Koori Diversion Worker will be to provide drug assessment and treatment to indigenous people whose drug taking behaviour is a key factor in their criminality.
The worker will liaise with local Police and Court personnel. Networking and providing feedback to law enforcement agencies will build trust and encourage them to try different ways of responding to offending behaviours of clients.
Education, group work and community links will also be important in preventing clients from re-offending. Referrals may be made to both indigenous specific or mainstream services
- Ensure that clients with drug dependencies, which have or may lead them into offending behaviour, are provided with the opportunity to undertake a treatment program provided by a drug treatment agency.
- Assess, counsel or refer clients who present with Alcohol and /or drug related problems.
- Develop a rapport with the client, be able to assess the drug treatment needs of the client and develop an individual treatment plan.
- To work closely with the Koori Court program.
- Respond to community requests for information related to drug and alcohol issues related to harm in the community.
