Refugee Health Nurse – RHN
A Refugee Health Nurse assists newly arrived refugees to access health services. This may include health assessments, X-rays , Pathology. Access to dental care, Paediatric care and Vaccinations. A Refugee Health Nurse will assist and work with Doctors and health workers to co-ordinate appointments for theses services and any other health professionals involved in the health care of the refugee. It is the Refugee Health Nurses role to educate, either on a one to one basis or by arranging formal education. The Refugee Health Nurse can also visit clients in their home.
The Refugee Health Nurse can also assist in arranging transport to appointments in relation to health care through the volunteer service at Goulburn Ovens Institute of TAFE or through church groups and community guides. Community guides are also Refugees who have been settled in this area for some time and have an excellent knowledge of the area and services.
Who can access the program?
Any person deemed to be a Refugee, regardless of how long they have been in Australia can access the Refugee Health Nurse.
Where is it operated from?
The program operates out of our agency premises at 399 Wyndham Street, Shepparton. The Refugee Health Nurse can also visit clients in their home.
